Drake Summer Sixteen

Drake Summer Sixteen

As some one who loves a bit of drama music wise 2016 is continuing to impress me. I was intrigued when Drake dropped “Summer Sixteen” as he appears to send for everyone on his latest track. With Meek Mill sending for 50 Cent at the start of the year I guess Drake was feeling a little left out.

Summer Sixteen finds Drake on fire and showcasing all of his talents perfectly. Mixing his singing, rapping, plus trade mark laid back flows with style and finesse.

Summer Sixteen is split into two parts with the first part of the track firing shots at Meek Mill and even Barack Obama. We all know about the Drake/Meek Mill saga so nothing new there, however sending for the President of the United States Of America is pretty impressive on Drake’s part. Barak Obama found himself in the jackpot after being asked in a recent interview:

Who would win in a rap battle between Drake and Kendrick?

Barak Obama answered: “I think Drake is an outstanding entertainer, but Kendrick — his lyrics, his last album was outstanding. Best album of last year,” said the president.

Drake responds on Summer Sixteen with:

“Looking for revenge to do what you couldn’t do tell Obama that my verses are just like the whips that he in they bulletproof”

The second part of the track finds Drake firing shots at up and coming Toronto artists like Tory Lanez. Not to leave anyone out Chris Brown Jay-Z and Kanye West are all mentioned on Summer Sixteen, with Drake sending them props of a sort appose to direct disses.

The fall out so far from Summer Sixteen has been pretty record breaking. With Meek Mill posting his return diss “War Pain” only 15 minutes after “Summer Sixteen” was premiered on Beats 1 “OVO Sound Radio” show. “War Pain” addresses several of Drakes lines directly, leaving hip-hop fans bemused, how did Meek Mill respond so quickly? Meek Mill claims Drake’s ghost writer told him the lyrics in advance.

2016 is off to an epic start and with this latest offering from Drake he has put himself in the number one spot when it comes to mainstream US hip-hop. At the time of writing this “Summer Sixteen” is constantly being pulled down from youtube and similar sites, adding to the hype surrounding this track.

Look out for Drakes fourth studio album Views From The Six rumoured to be dropping in April 2016.
