What’s all the hype about the – One Take Freestyle ..?
I think this will be something I am saying a lot in 2016. What a year for UK music so far! Almost daily there is new music, beefs and trends. The biggest trends in 2015 in grime and UK rap were the segway and who was Chipmunk going to send for next!
In 2016 the latest trend is the one take freestyle which has taken the world of grime and UK rap by storm with everyone from Stormzy, Jammer, Cadet, Yungen, Bonkaz, DDark, Seejay 100, Koinz, Nick Brewer and countless more all stepping up to put their own twist on the one take freestyle. The originator was Ghetts when he teamed up with heavyweight producer Rudekid for their 653 project and released the track “One Take”. Since then this is the biggest thing in grime/UK rap with more and more people dropping new one take freestyles everyday. During a chat with new grime talent Koinz from Croyden he sums up the one take freestyle trend perfectly.: “I had to do it that beat is cold!”
So far the man of the moment Stormzy has caused the most hype with his one take freestyle, all filmed in Japan Stormzy used it as a platform to fire shots at J-Spades, Dappy and boxer Dillian Whyte. At the time of writing this no one has fired shots back at Stormzy, but watch this space, as I am sure sparks will fly!!
