AS BRUCK WOULD HAVE IT - ADAMPD

ADAMPD

Adz started his music journey in the passenger side of the Volvo listening to Grover Washington Jr and Herbie Hancock on repeat. He loved the smoothness but found as he got older he needed something else. In his early teens he first heard Nas’ Illmatic, It was Written and Stillmatic.  With grime also making a comeback at the time he continued down the long road of trying to blend his love of moody Hip Hop sonics and rhythmic sampling with the fast melodies of the jazz music he grew up. A few years down the line, he was sitting in a studio near Old Kent Road when he was played some broken beat samples out of an Akai MPC 2000XL. Those in the room described the founders of this music called Brokenbeat or Brukbeat and from then he was hooked on the sounds of Orin Walters, Kaidi Tathum and the rest of the “cats”. Since them he’s been on the hunt for corners of the scene where Brukbeat meets that 70s Jazz Funk he grew up or the early 2000’s hip hop and grime that became soundtracks to his life.
