Why Ain’t De La Soul’s Older Music Available On Streaming Services?

De La Soul

Recently De La Soul’s  Kelvin “Posdnous” Mercer and David Jolicoeur recently told Bloomberg why the legendary groups older music isn’t available on streaming platforms such as Spotify.

They stated “Unfortunately, a lot of the earlier stuff we did on Tommy Boy Records, from what we understand, a lot of the legal language that needed to a part of the contracts between ourselves, the owners of the master and the publishing, I guess it didn’t include the world of digital”.

They went on to say “It was almost specifically to vinyl, cassettes and Compact discs,  so a lot of those contracts needed to be reworked. So when dealing with that it took a lot, and it is taking a lot of time to reach out to these different people”.

All is not lost though, as the icons proclaimed “And just to rework those contracts to make that language exist for the benefit of the individuals involved, it’s just a process”.

Even better news is De La Soul’s up and coming album, which will be their first album in 11 years.  The album will be entirely funded via a Kickstarter campaign.

The crew’s original goal was to raise $110,000, nevertheless they have raised $456,658 from 8,339 backers with 12 days left to go until the campaign finishes.

The album is scheduled to be released sometime this year, so come on people go and support the crew and make their funding go through the rooftop, you know they deserve it! Only 12 days left!
